Deadly Airstrike Hits Gaza City
At Least 40 Killed in Rafah Camp for Displaced
Israeli Missiles Strike Tents, Causing Widespread Casualties
A deadly airstrike hit the southern Gaza city of Rafah on Sunday night, killing at least 40 people and injuring dozens more. The Israeli military said it targeted a Hamas military site, but witnesses said the missiles struck tents where displaced civilians were sheltering. The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, called for an immediate ceasefire and urged Israel to abide by the International Court of Justice's ruling to stop its offensive in Gaza.
Both Israel and Hamas confirmed that the strike killed two Hamas officials. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it was reviewing the incident after reports emerged that civilians may have been killed. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and panic as people fled the camp. One survivor said, "We were sleeping in our tents when the missiles hit. We didn't have time to escape. Many people were killed or injured."
