Celtics Take Early Lead in NBA Finals Opener

Boston Dominates Dallas in Game 1

Updated June 6, 2024 8:07 PM PDT

The Boston Celtics have taken an early 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 on Thursday night. The Celtics controlled the game from the start, leading by 21 points at halftime and never looking back.

Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 24 points, while Jayson Tatum added 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Celtics shot a blistering 38.1% from 3-point range, while the Mavericks struggled from deep, shooting just 25.9%.

The Mavericks were led by Luka Dončić, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds. However, Dončić was limited to just 6-of-18 shooting and was clearly bothered by a left knee injury.

The Celtics will look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series when they host the Mavericks in Game 2 on Sunday night. The Mavericks will need to find a way to contain Brown and Tatum if they want to stay competitive in the series.
